ELLEN JANTZEN (USA)
Title: Reflecting Radiation
Born and raised in St. Louis Missouri, USA
Currently lives in Valencia California
Jantzen is an artist whose work spans two very diverse areas; organic sculptural
forms and digital prints.
She is inspired with the natural world; rock formations, seed pods, nests,
eggs; shapes that resonate with birth, rebirth and growth. In her sculptural
forms, she explores the nature of recycled paper and its sculptural
qualities by creating pulp which she forms into shapes that respond with nature.
She also combines materials, adding beeswax or layers of wood filler, sanding
and filing to create texture.
Most recently Jantzen has been working with photographs of her sculptural
forms to create limited edition digital prints. She generates the imagery
by manipulating the photos in different ways; the process becomes infinite
as further re-coloration, re-manipulation and re-creation occur. Her method
incorporates several artistic techniques and provides a link between traditional
and digital art forms, between the two dimensional world and the three dimensional
world. These digitally created pieces are called Transmutations.
Artist: Eric Heller (USA)
Title: Caustic IV
Art Inspired by Science
Eric J. Hellers digital abstract art is inspired by a world we cannot
see directly: the quantum realm of electrons, atoms and molecules. The strange,
often chaotic quantum domain yields forms which Heller uses as a medium, creating
images which convey the mystery of quantum physics. His prints are ultrahigh
resolution, large format and archival photographic and inkjet media. Heller
has been influenced by Sol LeWitt, whose meticulous and often geometric creations
he admires.
Eric Johnson Heller (b. 1946) lives in Lincoln, Massachusetts, and is a member
of the Physics and Chemistry faculties of Harvard University, where he also
received his Ph.D. in 1973. He has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy
of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science,
and the American Physical Society. Hellers research involves theoretical
investigation of wave behavior, chaos and quantum mechanics, and collision
theory.
